Frequently asked questions
-
Congratulations! Pregnancy is such an exciting time, but it can often feel overwhelming at the beginning. Your GP is an amazing place to start. I usually recommend making an appointment to see your GP soon after you’ve had a positive pregnancy test. Your GP will assess any medical conditions or medications that might be impacted by pregnancy, support you with any symptoms, request routine blood tests and refer you on for ongoing pregnancy care.
-
There are lots of different care models available to you and what’s right from person to person may be very different. If you have questions about private care, please don’t hesitate to contact the practice.
-
Early pregnancy ultrasound is valuable for numerous reasons – confirming that the pregnancy is developing normally and in the right place, establishing your due date and checking for twins! Julia will complete an early pregnancy scan as part of your booking visit so there’s no need to do this prior to your first appointment.
-
Ideally the first visit occurs early in the first trimester 7-10 weeks to perform a scan as above and to set up the remainder of pregnancy care. The exact schedule of visits from there depends on your unique pregnancy circumstances, but you can expect monthly visits to 28 weeks, fortnightly visits after that and then weekly reviews from then till baby arrives.
Pregnancy care located at The Mercy Hospital for Women
Julia provides pregnancy care and birth at the Mercy Hospital for Women, a tertiary Women’s hospital. Whilst pregnancy and labour and birth are very often smooth and uncomplicated, it is re-assuring to have ready access to onsite neonatal intensive care and operating theatres available at Mercy Hospital, as well as access to Austin Hospital’s blood bank and critical care services’.
